Outdoors fun workouts for the new season
Exercise is the single most effective way to combat the long-term effects of chronic stress. Warming temperatures and gorgeous weather bring us the perfect opportunity to try for the first time or to practice again some outdoors-oriented workout routines. Think of this spring as your chance to get out of your comfort zone and attempt something different that would challenge your body. And remember! even ten minutes of exercise a day will make a difference in your health. Here are some fun activities recommended by our team at the EOV Wellness Project ®:
Paddle Boarding
An excellent activity for cardiovascular health and core strengthening, and one of the best exercises to unplug from the stress of daily life. Using a surfboard or similar device, you simply stand on the board with a long paddle to propel yourself forward. In addition to requiring good balance, this exercise also calls for upper core strength which is a bonus for your back health. For those extra adventurous try Yoga Paddle Boarding.
Hiking
Hiking is a great low-impact activity that brings you countless healthy benefits. All you need are a pair of walking shoes and a path to follow. In the countryside or in your city, discovering new places and scenery is always a pleasure. From nature preserves to city parks and trails, hiking gives you the chance to get off-road and in direct contact with nature – also offering the opportunity of making new friends along the way.
Cycling
Biking is fun and an optimal no-impact option for those wanting to exercise without damaging their knees, back or hips. It is also a great workout, a sustainable way to move around, and a great opportunity to join riding groups and meet new people. Cycling is mainly an aerobic activity, which means that your heart, blood vessels and lungs get a good workout while you are just having fun.
Rock Climbing
A fun and precise activity to practice that needs a bit of technical preparation. Before starting make sure you go with experienced teachers in order to learn proper safety techniques. When you rock climb you strengthen even the smallest muscles — all areas of your body from arms to shoulders and legs will become toned and build muscle without needing weights. A full body workout, and an amazing way of getting rid of stress. Rock climbing needs such a high concentration level that you will forget about the rest of the world and be fully present.
